Windows Guide – We will use this guide to:
- Jailbreak – iPhone 3G
Important !
- If you have used Categories – Please Remove everything out of Folders created by categories. For ex. Apps Folder – has all Apps inside – Remove these Apps from within this folder & delete App Folder do this for all Folders created by categories – it is important that you First remove apps from within categories folder & then remove the folder itself. Now uninstall categories completely from Cydia or icy. If you do not do this – We found AppStore showing App Installed but we were unable to locate the App (even via – Spotlight).
- If you have Blank Icons Installed Please remove them Prior to Restore.
- We tested this and found – Apps were missing – Storage was taken by (other) in iTunes – Blanks will show up on the device after a sync (This is because Blank Icons are bookmarks & bookmarks are backed up in iTunes) so to avoid complications afterwards we suggest you take these tiny steps to get a clean jailbroken Device.
- Now Hook your device up & let is Back up – This Back up will promise a clean restore without any extra stuff inserted.
While these steps are not necessary but they will surely promise a clean install. We Highly recommend that you Do this. This jailbreak will install Cydia (no Icy,icy can be installed from within Cydia).
Download whats Needed to Your DeskTop
Create “Pwnage” Folder on the desktop & place everything inside this folder.
- Redsn0w Windows -[Redsn0w 0.8] [Redsn0w 0.8]
- 3.0.1 [3G]: iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw Recommended

Getting your Device To Firmware 3.0
Note: Before we begin You Must have 3.0.1 Firmware on your Device,so if your device is not on 3.0.1 A Restore is recommended because this Ensures a Clean Install & will eliminate any wasted space.
Please use the Hold & Shift method to restore your device to 3.0.1
1. Download Firmware 3.0.1 onto your desktop
2. Hook you device to iTunes
3. Hold Shift (option on mac) Down & Click on Restore
4. Locate the Firmware 3.0.1 File iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A341_Restore.ipsw & Double Click it.
5. Once your device is restored it will be on 3.0.1 Firmware.
Begin Jailbreak Process
Step 1. Launch redsn0w by Double Clicking the redsn0w icon.
Step 2. Redsn0w will open up to a welcome screen Now – Hit the Browse Button & find Firmware 3.0 in pwnage folder.
Note: Here – we will get the Redsn0w to Pick up the 3.0 Firmware Not the 3.0.1
(double click the firmware file iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw)
Step 3. Redsn0w will Identify the firmware file & give a success message. Click Next
Step 4. Make sure Install Cydia is Selected. Click Next
Step 5. Hook your iPhone to you computer & Turn it off – Click Next
Step 6. Follow the on Screen Guide to put your device into DFU Mode
- Hold down the Power Button for 3 seconds
Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w picks up the device. You will know this By Changed Window & Message.
Step 7. After your Device is in DFU Successfully – Redsn0w will start to Jailbreak your Device.
Step 8. Device will Reboot
Note: JailBreaking 3.0.1 - If you get Stuck on “Waiting for reboot” or “Rebooting” screen (redsn0w shows this message 2 time we are talking about the 2nd time) – Simply Unplug your device and plug it back within a second or 2 seconds. if it still doesnt work hit cancel and start over till this step – Next time you see the Waiting for reboot (2nd Time) Unplug your Device & plug it back in right away . It should work fine.
Done – Your Device has been Jailbroken. You will find Cydia installed on your springBoard.

I am having problems here. I have downloaded the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file several times and I keep getting a zip file. I have not found the .ipsw file yet. Not sure what I am doing wrong. If you have any suggestions I would be very thankful!!
it will say the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw.zip being downloaded but it will place this file on ur desktop . do not use safari to download it use firefox.
I have been using Internet Explorer to download it. I will try it again. Just been having problems and it is a bit frustrating.
Did it again just now. I am getting a winrar file on my desktop. When I run redsnow I can't find the right file extension to use for the jailbreak. Oh well, maybe my phone is not meant to be jailbroken at this time.
I got it figured out. Not sure what was going on, but I got it fixed.
Well, that is good. Let us know what happened, just in case another user experiences this…. did you delete all the .ipsw and start over, using Firefox???

I already figured out. I had the same problem. when you download the winrar or zip file do not unzip or extract file. just open file from winrar or inzip program and you will see the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw. jus copy and paste it in your folder.
the other way to find it is after you restored or updated your iphone got username/appdata/roaming/apple computer/itunes/iphone sofware update. there you will find the all .ipsw files you have used.

Hi. Just want to say thanks to those, who made the jailbreaking and unlocking possible. it took me about 30 minutes to do the job. Now i can use with ANY GSM SIM card that I whish. I just followed the symple step-by-step tutorial

Hey, So I just restored my updated to the new OS last night. I had cydia installed and when I went to update my phone, the categories thing really did a number on my phone. I have a number of apps that are not there. I didn't read this until AFTER i did this. Any suggestions?
