More evidence has been found to back up a very real theory that Apple maybe naming its upcoming Tablet the “iPad”. Only time will tell if it will be called iPad or if there will be a Tablet for sure.
According a report published on MacRumors, Fujitsu owns the trademark “iPad” in the United States which could cause Apple problems if it were to use the mark.
The Jesus Tablet blog is now reporting that the ‘iPad’ trademark had fallen into abandoned status after Fujistu failed to provide documentation required to complete the application. Although Fujistu tried to revive it, Apple has filed several requests with the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) to extend the time given to oppose the trademark.
The mark was published for public comment and opposition on September 1, 2009; however, the USPTO granted Apple’s request and extended the time to oppose to 2/28/2010 “on behalf of potential opposer Apple Inc.”
This timeline would allow Apple to maintain the secrecy of its tablet and give the company plenty of time to file its claim to the ‘iPad’ name after the official unveiling.
