<p><span style="color: #888888;"><span style="font-size: medium;">In This Tutorial We Will Show You How To SSH Without Wi-Fi.<span id="more-4335"></span></span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4336" style="border: 2px solid black;" title="cyberduck-no wifi" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/cyberduck-no-wifi.png" alt="cyberduck-no wifi" width="200" height="200" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>SSH Tutorial for Mac&#8217;s using Cyberduck &#8211; </strong><strong><em>NO WiFi Needed</em></strong></p>
<p><em>This is for the times you are not at home or in a WiFi spot, but still need to SSH and change a few things. I know I always need this for checking my Themes out when I am designing them. OK lets get started&#8230;&#8230;</em></p>
<p>First you are going to need a few things.</p>
<ol>
<li>A Jailbroke iPhone</li>
<li>Cyberduck (download here)</li>
<li>Open SSH (install from Cydia)</li>
</ol>
<p>Now let&#8217;s kill the WiFi and Create a Network (top of menu bar on the right of your desktop)</p>
<ul>
<li>Name: iPhone SSH (no password needed)</li>
<li>Channel: Automatic (11)</li>
</ul>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-4342" title="Picture 11" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Picture-11.png" alt="Picture 11" width="504" height="205" /></p>
<p><em>This will change your WiFi Bars to a different logo (like a baseball diamond)</em></p>
<p>Now Open Cyberduck. Note: It is best to copy Cyberduck into your applications folder so you are not working off the Disc Image.</p>
<p><img style="border: 0px initial initial;" title="Picture 3" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Picture-31.png" alt="Picture 3" width="449" height="530" /></p>
<p>Now on the top of your Desktop of your Mac ( In the Menu Bar), click on the Preferences Tab</p>
<p><img style="border: 0px initial initial;" title="Picture 4" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Picture-41.png" alt="Picture 4" width="186" height="249" /></p>
<p>Now change the settings below. (in the General Tab)</p>
<ol>
<li>Default protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)</li>
<li>Default login name: root</li>
</ol>
<p><img style="border: 0px initial initial;" title="Picture 55" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Picture-55.png" alt="Picture 55" width="388" height="452" /></p>
<p>This just saves you time later, now you can close the Preferences Tab</p>
<p>Now with your iPhone/iPod plugged into your computer via usb, goto your settings or SB Settings and find your IP Address from the Network you just created. (write this down). Note: You must also have SSH turned on in your SB Settings. You have to select the new Network first, then wait a few seconds for the new IP Address to come up. You might have to exit and re-enter the settings.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4337" title="IMG_0201" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_0201-185x278.PNG" alt="IMG_0201" width="185" height="278" /><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4338" title="IMG_0202" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_0202-185x278.PNG" alt="IMG_0202" width="185" height="278" /><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4340" title="IMG_0204" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/IMG_0204-185x278.PNG" alt="IMG_0204" width="185" height="278" /></p>
<ol>
<li>Now in Cyberduck, Type the IP Address from the Network you just created.</li>
<li>Make sure the Port is: 22</li>
<li>Make sure the Username is: root</li>
<li>Type in the Password: alpine</li>
<li>Click on Connect</li>
</ol>
<p><img style="border: 0px initial initial;" title="Picture 6" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Picture-61.png" alt="Picture 6" width="447" height="281" /></p>
<p>Note: Sometimes it might time out the first time you use this, If another window pops up, just click on Always. This will allow the connection all the time with theses settings.</p>
<p>That is it. You should now have a screen like below with you&#8217;re iPhone / iPod Hard Drive.</p>
<p><img style="border: 0px initial initial;" title="Picture 7" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Picture-71.png" alt="Picture 7" width="449" height="192" /></p>
<p>To modify your Themes, goto: click on that Blue arrow in the middle with the folder, /private/var/root</p>
<ul>
<li>Goto var, then stash, then you will see your Themes folder and others like Ringtones. This is where you would just drag and drop your themes or ringtones into.</li>
<li>If you want to modify an existing Theme in your WinterBoard, just drag it from the Themes folder onto your desktop computer (or double click it), and now you will have a copy to play with on your desktop.</li>
<li>You can also, just Right click and Rename, Delete, etc right in Cyberduck.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong><em>Just be very careful. Always do research first, or you will find yourself Restoring your iPhone/iPod. <span style="font-weight: normal;">(When I first learned, I accidentally dragged one folder into another and my iPhone froze, causeing me to restore.) Just take it slow and learn where things go first.</span></em></strong></p>
<p><strong><em><span style="font-weight: normal;">Now you are an SSH&#8217;er too&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. only WiFi free!!</span></em></strong></p>

You can choose magnetic north, or have Compass adjust the declination to show true north.</span></h2>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;"><span>IMPORTANT: </span>The accuracy of digital compass headings may be negatively affected by magnetic or other environmental interference, including interference caused by the close proximity of the magnets contained in the iPhone earbuds. The digital compass should only be used for basic navigation assistance and should not be solely relied on to determine precise locations, proximity, distance, or direction.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">The compass needs to be calibrated the first time you use it, and may need to be calibrated occasionally after that. iPhone alerts you whenever calibration is needed.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.3em; margin-left: 0px; font-size: 1.3em; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; line-height: 1.4; color: #000000; padding: 0px;">Calibrate iPhone:</h3>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">Wave iPhone in a figure eight. You may also be asked to move away from a source of interference.</p>

<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">Hold iPhone level to the ground. The compass needle rotates to point north. <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">The icon at the bottom of the Compass screen lets you find your current location in Maps. Maps also takes advantage of the built-in compass to show which way you’re facing.</p>

<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">In Maps, tap <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3732" title="il_compcurloc" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/il_compcurloc.png" alt="il_compcurloc" width="14" height="14" /> again. <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">Messages lets you exchange text messages with anyone using an SMS-capable phone. Messages also supports MMS, so you can send photos, video clips (iPhone 3G S only), contact information, and voice memos to other MMS-capable devices. You can enter multiple addresses and send a message to several people at the same time.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;"><span>NOTE: </span>MMS is available only on iPhone 3G or later. SMS or MMS support may not be available in all regions. Additional fees may apply for use of Messages. Contact your carrier for complete information.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">You can use Messages whenever you’re in range of the cellular network. If you can make a call, you can send a message. Depending on your phone plan, you may be charged for the messages you send or receive.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.3em; margin-left: 0px; font-size: 1.3em; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; line-height: 1.4; color: #000000; padding: 0px;">Send a message:</h3>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">Tap <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3728" title="il_compose" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/il_compose.png" alt="il_compose" width="16" height="12" />, then enter a phone number or name, or tap  <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3729" title="il_plusblue" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/il_plusblue.png" alt="il_plusblue" width="14" height="14" /> and choose a contact from your contacts list. Type a message, and tap Send.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">The Messages icon on the Home screen shows the total number of unread messages you have.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-3683" src="http://www.ihackthatifone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/TextMsgs_P1.png" alt="" width="209" height="41" /></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">Your conversations are saved in the Messages list. Conversations that contain unread messages have a blue dot <img style="border: 0px none initial;" src="http://images.apple.com/iphone/how-to/content/images/IL_BlueDot.png" alt="Blue dot" width="14" height="14" /> next to them. <p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;">In Settings, tap Messages, then tap MMS Messaging to turn it on or off. You may want to turn MMS Messaging off, for example, to prevent sending or receiving attachments when fees apply.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1.5em; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;"><span>NOTE: </span>The MMS Messaging setting doesn’t appear if MMS isn’t supported by your carrier.</p>
