This Guide we will upgrade your already Jailbroken iPhone 3GS on 3.0 Firmware to 3.1 with PwnageTool 3.1

Important !

• If you have used Categories –  Please Remove everything out of Folders created by categories. For ex. Apps Folder – has all Apps inside – Remove these Apps from within this folder  & delete App Folder do this for all Folders created by categories – it is important that you First remove apps from within categories folder & then remove the folder itself. Now uninstall categories completely from Cydia or icy.  If you do not do this – We found AppStore showing Apps Installed but we were unable to locate the App (even via – Spotlight).
• If you have Blank Icons Installed Please remove them Prior to Restore.
• We tested this and found – Apps were missing – Storage was taken by (other) in iTunes – Blanks will show up on the device after a sync (This is because Blank Icons are bookmarks & bookmarks are backed up in iTunes) so to avoid complications afterwards we suggest you take these tiny steps to get a clean jailbroken Device.
• Now Hook your device up & let is Back up - This Back up will promise a clean restore without any extra stuff inserted.

While these steps are not necessary but they will surely promise a clean install. We Highly recommend that you Do this. This jailbreak will install Cydia (no Icy,icy can be installed from within Cydia).

Step 1.

Download everything that is needed.

1. 3.1.0 (3GS): [iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw] 2. [PwnageTool 3.1.3] [Backup Links]

Create a folder called Pwnage on your Desktop. Download the above two  & place both inside the Pwnage folder.

Step 2.

Double Click the Pwnage Tool 3.1.3.dmg  - Place the Pwnage Tool Icon Inside pwnage Folder on your desktop.

Step 3.

Double Click the PwnageTool Icon & PwnageTool will now launch.

You will see this Warning & PwnageTool Will start.

Step 4.

Enable Expert Mode

Step 5.

Click the phone you want to Jailbreak (we will choose iPhone 3GS as we are Jailbreaking iPhone 3GS)

Click The Blue Arrow.

Step 6.

After you Click the blue arrow, You will be at the “Browse for IPSW”.  On My Macbook PwnageTool picked up the IPSW automatically. If PwnageTool doesn’t locate the firmware file (iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw) automatically Click browse ipsw & locate the Firmware file you placed in “Pwnage” folder.

Select Firmware File (make sure you select the correct one)

Step 7.

Click Blue Arrow  & Select General & click Blue Arrow

Choose Activate if you cannot activate your iPhone via iTunes.

For Everyone with AT&T or official Carrier  You Should uncheck this.!

Skip This Step ( Bootneuter Setting) Click Blue Arrow.

This step is where PwnageTool Lets you install Package

I choose to skip this step as everything can be installed via Cydia. Click Arrow

If you do not want to install Icy Uncheck it  . Do not uncheck Cydia Installer.

You can leave this page as is as well

Next Option is where you can choose to have customer Boot up Logo & Recovery Logo.

To leave default logos uncheck “Boot logo” & “Recovery Logo”

Final Step is to Click “Build”

PwnageTool will start to build an IPSW

Next – Pwnage will ask you to save the Firmware (IPSW).

Save this File on your Desktop so you can grab it when we need it easily

Pwnage Tool will continue to Build a Customer Firmware File.

Pwnage Tool will  need your admin password. Enter your Password & click ok.

Once finished – Pwnage Tool will give you the following Screen.

You can now press ok & close Pwnage Tool.

Next Step is to restore your iPhone using the Customer Firmware File we Built

What we now need to do is put your iPhone in Recovery Mode

Follow the instructions below.

1.

Turn your Device off.

1.| Hold The Home & The power Button Together  2.| Device will restart Continue to Hold |

3.| Release when you see the Restore screen |

Successfully Entered Restore Mode ↓

You will get the following Pop up on your mac

Now:  While in iTunes – Press & hold the Alt/Option key & click restore.

A pop up will show up – Locate the custom iPhone Firmware that we built earlier & double click it.

Restore Will Begin

Device Restored ↓

If you have Official Carrier your iPhone Will Now Be Activated.

If you don’t have official carrier & you chose to activate your phone via pwnage it should already be activated.

Your iPhone 3GS has been Jailbroken on Firmware 3.1

Launch Cydia & Install your Favorite Stuff Away.

Dev Team has confirmed that the current version on Redsn0w works fine on the latest Firmware 3.0.1 Released by Apple Earlier yesterday. You can still Jailbreak and Unlock your device without any issues.

Firmware 3.0.1 was released by Apple to fix The security flaw that involved malicious SMS messages that could allow hackers to take control of an iPhone. The flaw could have let them make calls, send text messages, or almost anything they wanted on the victim’s iPhone.

You can re-use redsn0w v0.8 we released a few weeks ago to jailbreak today’s 3.0.1 update.  Just let iTunes update or restore you to official 3.0.1 then run redsn0w.

• The only “trick” is that when redsn0w asks you to identify the IPSW used, point it at the 3.0 IPSW instead of the 3.0.1 one.   After the jailbreak, reinstall ultrasn0w 0.9 if you need the unlock.

More details:

The 3.0.1 release is a “branch” from 3.0 that occurs (code-wise) before all the 3.1 betas.  The programs redsn0w needs to change for the jailbreak are identical when you compare the 3.0 and 3.0.1 versions.  It seems pretty much the only changes Apple made were for the SMS bug, which affects programs that redsn0w doesn’t touch.  That’s why you can re-use redsn0w 0.8 on 3.0.1 even though it was written for 3.0.

And since 3.0.1 doesn’t touch the baseband either, ultrasn0w 0.9 works for those needing the soft unlock.  Just install it from the repo666.ultrasn0w.com repository using Cydia as usual.

We’ll at some point fix redsn0w to recognize both 3.0 and 3.0.1 IPSW’s, but really that’s the only change that would be made to it.  Everything else would be identical, so there’s no need to wait for the “proper” version that recognizes the 3.0.1 IPSW as valid.

What is working on Jailbroken 3.0 ?  Lets us know whats working for you on 3.0 after the Jailbreak.

Currently there are a lot of Apps – Mods – Tweaks – Themes that are not working with 3.0, this transition will be a little hectic but everything should be working on 3.0 depending on if their respective developers upgrade the Apps. Everytime Firmware upgrade comes around we loose a few Apps that are never updated but majority of the stuff should be working. So if you did already jailbroke 3.o  & are playing around with 3rd Party stuff let us know whats up whats down and whats in the middle.!

we will update this list accordingly.! This will prevent users from getting SWOD (spinning wheel of Death) or any other isues if you install something that is not working hence preventing the user from some serious headache of restoring again and again.

Pandora Controls is a daemon available via Cydia on Big Boss’s Repo. It adds Pop Up controls for Pandora Radio. Pandora Radio is widely used on the iPhone & iPod Touch.  This a nice add on, this makes skipping a song very smooth  & easy,with this you never have to leave the current application that you are in. All you have to do is double Tap the Home button and a UI Pop up shows up with controls from where you can pause,Skip or launch Pandora.

so Create an On-The-Go Playlist – Sync your iPhone/iPod with itunes >>Rename this Playlist>>Create another>>Next Sync Rename this On-The-Go & so on…

the only bad thing is all this is that you can not add more songs nor delete songs from a playlist created by  - on the go. Add/remove can only be done when connected to iTunes.
