Backgrounder Updated for 3.0

backgrounder-iconBackgrounder is a Mobile Substrate-based  extension that allows applications to run in the background.

This modification has made a few other applications that much better. My favorite is Pocket Tunes. Before this, I was only able to listen to Pocket Tunes while in the app. Now you just send it to the Background and do whatever you need on your iPhone / iPod. This is how the iPod works, but you just have to activate the backrounder on the other apps. The only thing that works at this time is the volume for Pocket Tunes though (no changing channels).

A few things to remember. You will use up battery life while running extra apps in the background. There are no extra features right now for Backgrounds, like the older version used to have. There should be another update in the future. This version is: svn.r247. This does have an icon for your springboard for future settings and notes (icon image is above/left) NOTE: DO NOT INSTALL this version if you are not running firmware 3.0

To Enable Backgrounding for an application:

  1. Launch the desired application
  2. Press and hold the Home Button (black/circle button with a white square)
  3. An alert will appear, saying that backgrounding has been enabled
  4. Release the Home Button
  5. After releasing the button, the application will minimize and bring you to your springboard. (if not, just hit the Home Button again)
  6. Now the application should still be running in the background

To Disable Backgrounding for an application:

  1. Follow the same steps as above. Notice that this time the alert will say that backgrounding has been “disabled”
  2. Or, if you have/open SB Settings and choose Processes. A small box will come up and you can Edit/Delete any items that are running in the background.
